Human Trafficking
Problem
Switzerland is considered a destination and transit country for more than fourteen other countries where women and children and kidnapped and sold. Many human trafficking organizations use Switzerland as a mid point for transactions, by shipping the people there from where ever their home country is and then to their final destination where they were purchased. These women are being kidnapped to be used as sex slaves, and the children to be used for child labor. Switzerland is used as a central point because it is such common thing for people to enter and exit due to European Union policies and to have easy access to transportation for long distances to most other countries because of the wealth and tourism Switzerland has.
Solution
The Swiss Government has had special training courses for both the Swiss Army and the Swiss Police force to both prevent and stop human trafficking. The Swiss government also supplied over one point four million dollars to multiple NGOs to assist those who have been saved from human trafficking. Those caught of trafficking humans have been known to be sentenced two to four years in Swiss prison for each count; however there has been much uproar over the fact that that is not enough of a punishment. In turn the Swiss government is discussing making the sentencing longer and it will be up for a vote by the people soon.
