Poverty
Problem
In recent years the Swiss government has realized that there is a serious poverty problem in the country. It has been estimated that more than a quarter million Swiss children live at or below the poverty level. A man, Hugo Fassal, leads the discussion on the situation, and believes that in order to win the fight against poverty, a greater care in education must be taken. A conference to discuss the issue of poverty was help on the ninth of November in 2010. When this conference occurred it was big news to the people of Switzerland because hardly any outside of the people living in poverty knew how big of a problem it was. This is because Swiss people are always looked at as wealthy, if they are in fact in an economic hardship, they keep it to themselves due to shame and despair. With Governmental aid and Welfare, Switzerland is hoping to decrease the number of citizens it has living in poverty, to better the lives of those children having to deal with it.
Solution
Swiss Labour Assistance (SLA) is a NGO developed in 1936 to assist refugees and disaster victims. However, more recently, the organization has aided to the increasing population of Swiss people living at the poverty level. Their efforts include giving food to those who can not afford it, teaching the unemployed simple jobs so that they might soon find an employer, and medically assisting anyone who might need help. SLA works in twelve countries to aid to any sort of devastation that might have occurred or is occurring currently. They tend to work in countries where the government did not want to aid to a certain situation. In Switzerland's case, the SLA has helped because up until recently the government has not been involved in aiding those who live in poverty.
