Socio-Political Information
Switzerland tends to excel when it comes to their socio-political statistics. While Switzerland does not have a very diverse population when it comes to population, the country’s age spectrum is very well rounded and the standard of living is higher than most other countries. The Swiss population is sixty-five percent German, eighteen percent French, ten percent Italian, six percent “other,” and one percent Romansch. When Switzerland was forming as a nation, the surrounding countries, already being there beforehand, were very influential on the Swiss culture. Switzerland is surrounded by Austria, Germany, France and Italy. This leads to both the percentage of ethnic groups and the national languages of Switzerland being what they are. Romansch is a very small group of people found only in Switzerland. The language is also only spoken by that one percent of Swiss people. It is found next to nowhere else in the world. The spectrum of ages in Switzerland is very evenly spread. This leads to show how great the healthcare is in the country. If there were to be a small percentage of older citizens, it would lead to the presumption that healthcare is not good enough to have the population surviving to an older age. The percentage of Switzerland’s older population is equal to that of its younger population, proving the astounding healthcare in the country. Another factor proving the survival rate in Switzerland to be higher than that of most other countries is the high standard of living that the Swiss government sets in place. Indoor plumbing is found everywhere throughout the country leading to a very sanitary state. The percentage of Swiss citizens living with HIV is also extremely low at point four percent. Ninety-Nine percent of the Swiss population are literate as well. There is really no portion of Swiss people who are living in poor and unhealthy conditions. With the high standards of living that the Swiss Government sets in place, there are few countries that come close to the pleasant lifestyles Swiss people enjoy.
